The Watch Directories feature is a method of automatically uploading Assets into Asset Bank. Files are uploaded to a directory via FTP which Asset Bank periodically checks and then ingests them.
Our Customer Support Team will need to help you configure FTP uploads and the Watch Directories with the various options below.
Multiple Watch Directories
A Watch Directory is mapped to a single Folder and Asset Type in Asset Bank and any Asset ingested will be added to this Folder as this Asset Type. For more flexibility, multiple Watch Directories can be configured to upload different files to different places.
Ingesting Sub-Folders
If configured, you can add sub-Folders to your Watch Directory and when ingested, Asset Bank will check if that sub-Folder exists, create it if it doesn't, and upload the Asset to the sub-Folder.
Categories
If you have Categories enabled, it can also be configured to upload to Categories instead of Folders.
Approval
By default, new Assets created by Watch Directories will be approved but this can be changed so that they must be approved by an Admin or approved User before they are visible on your Asset Bank.
Updating Assets
If a file is found in the Watch Directory that already exists in Asset Bank, it can either be considered as a new Asset or it can replace the existing Asset. It matches on the original filename. If you have Versioning enabled the update will create a new version of the existing Asset.
Failed Uploads
In the rare instance that files do not upload successfully, they are added to a 'Failure' directory on the FTP server. You can check this directory and remove and reupload these files.
Watch Period
By default, Asset Bank will check the Watch Directories every hour but this can be increased/decreased if necessary.
