With the URL Mappings functionality, it is possible for a public user to acquire the permissions of a particular group by visiting a specific URL.
Considerations
With this feature, it is possible for anyone who knows the correct URL, to acquire the view and download permissions of a group. This is regardless of whether they have a user account or not. If a user access this feature to download an asset then this will be recorded in the Asset Usage attribute as 'Public User'.
Any permissions related to upload or download (with or without approval) should not be set up in these groups as the user would need a login for this type of interaction.
Finally, please note that only the groups explicit permissions will be granted as the user is not logged in and so will not inherit the permissions of the "*Logged in Users" group for example.
Configuration
You will first need to enable URL Mappings on your Asset Bank. Please contact our Customer Support Team who will enable this for you.
Then, navigate to Groups from the admin menu and edit the group that you wish to assign users to based on a URL. In the URL Mappings box enter a short description of the group for example “partnerx” and save the group.
In this example users could now access Asset Bank using:
https://[www.your-asset-bank.com]/action/viewHome?group=partnerx
They would then be assigned the view and download permissions of the group which was given the URL mapping “partnerx”.
Sub brands
If you also have different branding applied to particular groups in Asset Bank, then this can also be leveraged, e.g. as follows:
https://[www.your-asset-bank.com]/action/viewHome?group=partnerx&brand=partnerx
(Assuming 'partnerx' is also the string used to define the brand in this example. This can be found by looking at the Brand parameter when editing a given group, Admin > Groups > Group in Question > Edit.)
Friendlier URLS
Friendlier URLs can be setup. For example:
http://partnerx.[your-asset-bank.com]
or
http://[www.your-asset-bank.com]/partnerx
If your Asset Bank is hosted by us, please contact our support team so that we can configure this URL for you.
If you host your Asset Bank then please contact the person responsible for the server which Asset Bank is hosted on. They will need to setup the new URL and then use a rewrite or redirect to point it to http://[www.your-asset-bank.com]?group=[your-group-identifier].
