When creating a keyword picker you are asked if you want to enforce globally unique keywords. This means, for this particular keyword picker attribute, all keywords at all levels have to be unique.

E.g. for a hierarchical structure like this (assuming we have specified globally unique keywords):

animals > cats

pets > felines > cats

The second entry would not be possible to add as 'cats' already exists somewhere.
