If you want to update the file or metadata for an asset but keep a copy of it as it was before, you can do this through asset versions. To enable asset versions please contact our Support Team.
When an asset is edited the user will have the option to save the changes or save as a new version. A new version will create an entirely new asset, maintaining the old one in the system. Saving as a new version is not possible for bulk updates.
With asset versions enabled, a new attribute called "Version" will be created. This can be displayed or removed as other attributes are in the Admin > Attributes section. You can also remove visibility over the attribute on a group-by-group basis by using the Attribute Visibility options in the Admin > Groups section.
The new version of the asset will maintain the asset ID of the original asset and the old versioned asset will be given a new ID. This is so that embedded links are updated with the new asset.

Other options for asset versions are controlled by settings in the ApplicationSettings.properties file.
