From the 17th February 2020, to ensure consistent performance across all of our hosted services, the number of requests to the Asset Bank API or Direct Link Cache will be limited.
The limits imposed differ between our shared and dedicated hosting options.
Shared: A maximum of 2 requests per second (r/s) will be served, from any given IP address. After 2 requests every other request made within the same second will be rejected. When a request is rejected you’ll receive a 429 (too many requests) error.
Dedicated: A maximum of 15 requests per second (r/s) will be served, from any given IP address. After 15 requests every other request made within the same second will be rejected. When a request is rejected you’ll receive a 429 (too many requests) error.
You will need to ensure that any 429 errors are caught and that the request is retried with a delay. It is best practice for this delay to increase exponentially after each failed request, which is referred to as exponential backoff.
