Asset Bank's 'Home' page is feature rich and highly configurable which allows you to turn it into a focal point for visitors to your Asset Bank. There are a number of elements that can be enabled to achieve various goals including promoting assets, highlighting recently added assets, keeping users informed of recent news and announcements or other content, promoting searches and also social media integration. Please see the image below for an example of what the home page can look like with all customisations enabled. Instructions on how to enable each feature are outlined underneath.
A note on the settings file
A number of the home page customisations involve the changing of settings in Asset Bank's settings file. Please see this Knowledgebase article to find out how to make changes to it:
Please note you may not have access to the settings file depending on whether you have access to the server Asset Bank is hosted on. If in any doubt, please contact your IT department or whoever is in charge of administering your Asset Bank server.
1. Welcome text
The introductory welcome text can be changed by navigating the following menu path: Admin > Content and then using the "Turn on edit mode" control. Browse back to the home page and you will see a notepad and pen icon under various items of content, including the introductory text area. Clicking on that icon will launch a 'what you see is what you get' (WYSIWYG) editor that will allow you to edit the text as you wish. When finished, look for the "Turn off edit mode" control in the header of the page, or browse back to Admin > Content and turn off edit mode that way. Moving the welcome message is currently not possible, but if you'd like to remove it or change the appearance then we may be able to assist - get in touch!
2. Featured Asset stream
The large asset in the top right hand corner is known as the 'featured asset'. You can enable it by giving a value greater than '0' to the following settings:
Please see this Knowledgebase article for instructions on how to add an asset to the featured assets stream:
3. 'Recently Added' asset stream
The 'Recently Added' items area is a 'stream' that updates whenever new assets are added to the system to keep your users up to date on the latest assets that are available to them.
On older versions of Asset Bank (those that have num-recent-images in their settings file) and when using the classic homepage then to turn this stream on/off or to change the number of images that are displayed, change the setting num-recent-images in the settings file (use a value of '0' to turn the stream off).
If you are using a newer version of Asset Bank (identifiable by having num-recent-images-for-classic-homepage in the settings file). Then the assets that are shown in the recently added section are determined by a saved search. Go to Advanced Search > Saved Searches and look at the 'Recently added' saved search. This determines what assets are shown in that section (although, if you are still using the classic homepage with a newer version, you can still adjust the number of assets that appear on the homepage with the num-recent-images-for-classic-homepage setting even though it is still be fed by the new saved search).
4. 'Editor's Picks' asset stream
The 'Editor's Picks' stream is actually referred to as the 'Promoted Items' stream in Asset Bank, this is an example of how you can edit the content of headings to place a different emphasis on content. The feature is enabled in a similar way to the 'Recently Added' stream, by editing the following setting in the settings file:
5. News Feed
The News Feed area can be used to keep your users up to date on news and events or other items of content. Please see this Knowledgebase article find out how to add a news article:
Once you have done that, the following settings in the settings file can be used to adjust the positioning and amount of content of the news feed: (please note there are no other options to move the location of the news feed)
